This week on the blog, we go on a trip with the talented travel and landscape photographer Philip Slotte. Philip tells us how the combination of travel and photography quickly became a passion that is taking him on a path to become a professional photographer.

A few words about you, how did you start photography?

I am a twenty-three year old landscape photographer based in Stockholm, Sweden. I work full-time as a Food Production Worker on a big industrial bakery where I do everything from IT-stuff, packaging products, planning the production and more. My dream is to someday work full-time as a photographer.

I started with photography by taking photos with my phone. I got my first Digital Camera in June 2012 as a gift from my parents, since then my passion for photography has increased more and more each year.





Did you try other photography styles? Or landscape photography has always been your favorite one?

I started by taking photos of pretty much everything, but it didn't take long until I realized that I was more drawn to shooting landscapes.

I have recently found out that my passion is not only about photography, it's about the combination of travel and photography. I have a hard time motivating myself to go out and shoot in my local area, and the same thing goes for travels, I haven’t planned a trip without the purpose of taking photos ever since I started with photography.





What was your favorite trip? Is there a place in the world you dream to photograph?

I would say that my trip to Senja in Northern Norway last August is my favorite trip so far. It was the most demanding trip as well, as I traveled, hiked and camped up in the mountains all by myself, for a week. But it was so worth it, there is something special about traveling by yourself.
I have many locations I would like to visit, one specific place is Patagonia, the mountains there look insane.
The Faroe Islands is also high up on my bucket list, and if everything goes as planned, I will go there this fall.





Are you inspired by the work of other photographers or directors, artists?

Yes absolutely, I find most of my inspiration from other photographers.
Some photographers that inspire me a little bit more than others are Daniel Kordan, Albert Dros & Dag Ole Nordhaug.





About your photography gears, what are your favorite tools?

My primary camera is a Nikon D810, and I also have a D800 as my backup camera. For most of my landscapes I use the Nikkor 16-35 f/4 lens, for night photography I use the Irix 15mm f/2.4 Firefly, and for telephoto, I use the Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5.
My favorite tools, except the regular camera gear, are my L-bracket and filters.

Do you have projects for the future like workshops, personal series or travels?

I am currently looking into ways of teaching others about landscape photography and post-processing.

I recently started a Youtube channel where I will share hopefully some useful tutorials, tips and tricks, vlogs and more. I also have plans on arranging workshops in the future.
