This week on the blog, we are going in the outdoor to follow the photographic research of Italian photographer: Irene Tondelli.

A few words about you, how did you start photography?
There were several beginnings. Photography, in general, has always interested me. The university was essential to try to make of it a real job. I worked in an advertising agency as an art director and then I went back to professional photography in the past few years when I started to shoot landscape photography.
Did you try other photography styles? Or landscape photography has always been your favorite one?
I have tried different styles, of course, to remain mentally fresh and create connections. What I do care about is, when I have an overall look at my different projects, to recognize me in them. But landscape photography moves me like nothing else. I think it's because it's not just a photographic genre but an attitude to life at 360 degrees. It influences how you travel, how you see, your priorities: it makes you more aware of how important it is to take care of the environment even in your small everyday choices. It asks you to get involved physically, as a human being and finally as a photographer.
What was your favorite trip?
Iceland was an incredible experience. But it was a few years ago, so: the journey I have not yet done.

Are you inspired by the work of other photographers or directors, artists?
Sometimes I hear certain songs and think "that's exactly what I wanted to say but I did not know how to say it”. I think that’s true brilliance: to say something believable in an amazing way. In front of the photographs of Luigi Ghirri I think the exact same thing. A Master. Inimitable. Lately, I feel attracted by things really distant from me. The best inspiration is the one you find where you would not expect to find it.
About your photography gears, what are your favorite tools?
ND filters, a resistant backpack, a carbon fiber tripod. In landscape photography, you should travel light but at the same time be ready for extreme climatic situations. The beauty of photography is its unpredictability, for this reason at the end I prefer fewer gears and more abilities. I find that being too prepared sometimes takes away substance to the work.
Do you have projects for the future like workshops, personal series?
I am currently working on a 4-hands photographic series with Walter Borghisani that will be presented during Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia in April. It's the thing I'm focusing on most. Regarding courses and workshops: my next intermediate photography course will begin in March and a short two-day shooting course will be held in May. In autumn, with Walter, we’ll run some storytelling workshops in schools and in photographic circles, we are itinerant.
