Lucky Shots
Is it possible to produce strong images by just leaving everything to chance? With his series ‘Lucky Shots’, Maarten documents the possibility to create beautiful photos without the inevitable human intervention.
In 2017, Maarten traveled thirty days through the Netherlands, to take pictures of the landscapes and cityscapes that he saw passing by from a moving train and bundled the results in the book 'Lucky Shots'.
The results? Abstract landscapes that pass too quickly to be fully apprehended. There is a dimension of contemplation of the landscape that passes, the life that moves while the spectator is in a quiet place. A metaphor for the time that passes too quickly?
Between impressionism and lyrical abstraction paintings, these photos taken by Maarten give the impression of seeing a landscape from afar. But when zoomed in, the pure unmixed colors achieve an effect of intense color vibration.

About the author
Maarten Vromans (1975, Netherlands) roams through cities and landscapes. With his photography, he explores the impact that people, nature and weather have on urban development.
Maarten is also famous for his series "Close Ups of Urban Erosion," a story that helps see the world a little differently from old to new, and new to old. A photo series obsessed with the cracks, scratches, repairs, and other imperfections in well-planned urban landscapes. A way to show us that no matter where we live, if you look hard enough, you can find beauty and art in the hidden corners of a street.
His photos were published in New Dutch Photography Talent 2016, an annual platform publication featuring the work of hundred upcoming Dutch photographers. Maarten has exhibited his work in Rotterdam, Amsterdam, The Hague, and Budapest.
